Highway Cleanup
In response to growing public concern about trash and debris along North Carolina’s roadways, the N.C. Department of Transportation established the Adopt-a-Highway program in 1988. Since then, tens of thousands of volunteers have reduced litter and also saved taxpayers millions of dollars annually in roadside cleanup costs. Adopt-A-Highway has more than 120,000 participants across the state — civic and community groups, including schools, religious, professional, and social organizations, as well as individuals and families.
The Wake Forest Rolesville Alumni Chapter has adopted Old Falls of Neuse road, a stretch of highway spanning from Highway 98 to Wakefield Pines drive. We currently cleanup the highway once a quarter as a chapter team building and community outreach event. In the future, we will be inviting the community to attend this cleanup and possibly adding another highway in Rolesville, NC. During recent clean ups, we have been noticed and recognized by the residents of these areas.
